The story, at the beginning, was pretty basic. As the Anime progressed, though, the story got more complex, and tensions arose between the characters. The .hack// series is best known for it's storyline, instead of action, so it's what you'd expect, really.

The characters were unique, both in design and personality. They were well developed and as the story progressed, the developement between characters and their relationships with other characters deepened. Many of the characters changed a lot throughout the story, too, which is also another good sign.

In one word, beautiful. .hack//ROOTS' background and ending music was pretty much all from the band ALI PROJECT, which really fit well into most, if not all, of the scenes. This is one thing that may catch your attention, because while certain events are happening, you can hear this upbeat in the background of the Anime, while in the foreground, you could still here characters talking and actions being performed.

The .hack// franchise is not well known for action in terms of fighting, so you can't really expect much from here, although the fighting that did occur was properly animated. The artists used many different effects to also suit the certain conditions that the character(s) were in, which was also interesting.

I find that this Anime did a great job to create the starting points for the upcoming game following the Anime, .hack//G.U., which will be released October 25'th in North America.
